An Inside Look into Sudoku Bookkeeping

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been mulling over my next blog and what kind of information to deliver next. While I love to deliver the goods on all things books and finance, I thought it was time to give you, my treasured readers and clients, a little peek behind the curtain at the “wizard” of Sudoku Bookkeeping.

If you’ve worked with me for a while, you may already know a bit about me, but if you’re new here, welcome!

I’m Katia Chehade, trainer, bookkeeper, registered BAS agent, MYOB Consultant, and QBO Pro Advisor, wife, mother, grandmother, business owner, entrepreneur, lover of good food, and passionate helper of small businesses and their finances.

I have been in the industry for over 25 years, and Sudoku Bookkeeping is my dream come true.

Come with me as we take a walk through the past, present, and future of Sudoku Bookkeeping.

Once Upon A Time…

It all began about 25 years ago when I worked at a not-for-profit organisation based in Concord West, NSW. I worked as an office manager including bookkeeping duties, and while I was happy there, I wanted more.

After some time, I decided that it was time to officially use my knack for numbers and develop my skills by studying.

I earned a Certificate IV in Bookkeeping and a Diploma in Accounting and went to work for a boss, all the while dreaming of my own bookkeeping business. Still, I continued to work, gaining experience and confidence in my abilities.

As much as I wanted my own business, I was settled and comfortable in my job while also raising a family.

Several years down the line, a life-changing event made me re-evaluate, and I decided to take the plunge and open my very own business.

In 2015, I realised my dream, and Sudoku Bookkeeping was born.

We’re Off to See the Wizard!

I have built Sudoku Bookkeeping on the values of efficiency, professionalism, ethics, empowerment, and commitment.

I believe that an efficient business promotes better work practices, therefore reducing stress and producing a better outcome.

I always encourage professionalism amongst my staff, contractors, and clients, promoting a culture of respect for all.

Having ethics in your personal and professional life speaks to who you are as a person and provides a good foundation to make correct judgements.

Commitment allows an organisation to meet the goals necessary to thrive.

I believe that we need to empower each other to promote optimism and growth.

If you’ve worked with me for a while, you’ll know that I’m dedicated to empowering small businesses to achieve their financial goals through financial management, advice, compliance, technology and software.

For over five years, I have been committed to working with my clients to create efficient, streamlined procedures designed to help them meet their goals and reduce the stress and pressure that often comes with running a small business.

As well as specialising in the preparation of high-quality reports and accounts, I pride myself on the compassion and patience I have for my clients. I understand that not all small business owners “get” numbers, so I do my best to gently encourage and support them in a logical, well-organised, and decisive manner to bring order and ease to their books and accounts.

I strive to keep myself up to date with all the latest trends and developments, so I make sure that I attend relevant workshops, webinars, seminars, and conferences to deliver the best, most accurate, and up to date information and services to my clients.

Follow Me Down the Yellow Brick Road

Now, with more than 20 years of hands-on experience, I’m continuing to grow not only my business but the vision I have to empower other small business owners.

As I have spent years doing books for other people, I have developed a passion for training and supporting business owners in DIY bookkeeping, allowing them the opportunity to fully understand their financial situation, gain a comprehensive understanding of how to keep their own books and build a strong organisation, community, and family lifestyle.

In June, I will be running the first of my one-on-one training and classroom workshops. My upcoming event will cover and simplify multiple aspects of MYOB and financial reporting.

My ongoing commitment to my mission also has me publishing a fortnightly blog detailing and guiding my readers through ATO compliance and understanding accounting software, and providing a free compliance checklist and business health check via the homepage on my website.

The journey so far has been a long but rewarding one. Thanks to you, my loyal clients, Sudoku Bookkeeping is growing quickly enough to warrant more staff, and I’m excited to be able to bring on a part-time bookkeeper in 2021.

In my mission to educate small businesses about their finances, Sudoku Bookkeeping also offers tips and trickson social media, so don’t forget to like my Facebook page and follow me on Instagram!
